Opening/Chair: Alana Hirtle was our Chair today. She led us in the singing of O’Canada and that was followed by a moment of personal reflection. She asked that we keep in mind the individuals affected by Hurricane Dorian, both locally and in the Caribbean.

Visitors/Guests: Lillian Scales joined us as a visitor for the fourth and final time, as she was inducted as a member today. Stacey Harrison was our only other visitor and the guest speaker for today’s meeting.

Speaker: Stacey Harrison was our guest speaker today. Stacey has been the Executive Director at Colchester East Hants Hospice Society since December 2018; however, has been a part of the organization for an additional two years as a member of the Board of Directors.  She brings with her almost twenty years of sales and marketing experience as well as personal experience to the role after going through a significant loss in late 2017.  The personal "lens" was the reason for her to re-evaluate and make the move from the private sector to not for profit. She grew up in Brookfield and now lives at Shortts Lake with her husband (Jason) and five (5) month old chocolate lab (Nala).

Colchester East Hants Hospice Society was founded in 2004 as a grassroots effort to support families facing life-threatening illness, death and grieving the loss of their loved one. The organization, led by a committed Board of Directors, has very successfully developed and launched programs and services in line with the mission and mandate.

Located at 89 Queen St, Hospice is a building, a belief and an approach. The organization focuses on improving the quality of living and the quality of dying of people and their families when facing, serious illness, death, and grief. In Colchester East Hants, Hospice-Palliative Care strives to provide physical, psychological, social, spiritual and practical support. Hospice is a registered charity and 100% of their fundraising activity supports programs throughout our community.

Stacey explained that right now the organization is going through a lot of changes and is in the rebuilding stage. They’ve hired new staff, and they’re developing new programs and partnerships.
