Canada World Youth is a non-formal educational program for youth aged 17-24. Truro will welcome nine young adults from across Canada and nine from Indonesia this month. Local community involvement is a key to our program vision and goals. Although there are numerous ways for individuals to become involved, the priority at this point is to find a few host families who would be interested to share their home with two of the program participants from September 21 to December 4, 2008.
Canada World Youth is a non-formal educational program for youth aged 17-24. In just under a month's time, Truro will welcome nine young adults from across Canada and nine from Indonesia. Participants will live with local host families, perform over 5000 hours of volunteer service at local non-profit organizations, and study world/community issues. Our goal is the creation of a new generation of active and engaged global citizens who share responsibility for the well-being of both people and the planet, participating actively toward the development of just, harmonious and sustainable societies. Local community involvement is a key to our program vision and goals. Although there are numerous ways for individuals to become involved, my priority at this point is to find a few host families who would be interested to share their home with two of our program participants from September 21 to December 4, 2008. The host family living arrangement is an integral aspect of program learning for our participants, as they discover much about local culture and customs via this medium. Past families who have participated in hosting also find they learn a great deal about foreign cultures, other communities in Canada... and end up discovering more about Truro through the process too. We pay a stipend to help defer food costs, and offer support to help guide families through the process. If you can help me get word through your networks about hosting, or put me in touch with individuals who might be interested, it would be much appreciated. My contact info is listed just below. I am attaching three different documents to this email for anyone who seeks additional information. One contains a bit more information about our programming, another is more specific information for communities on the hosting process, and the third is a "wish list" of sorts -- different ways for individuals to become involved should the hosting process not be possible. Thanks very much for helping me to get the word out about our program, and please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions whatsoever.
