Our Club’s “Rotarian Service Citation” is provided to a Club Member who has provided outstanding service to our Club over multiple years and is the most senior recognition by our Club for a Member.
 
Jim grew up on a farm in southern Ontario.  After completing his BSc and MSc from the University of Guelph, he joined the Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture in 1976 and retired in 2012.
 
Jim joined the Rotary Club of Truro in 2005. He was named Rotarian of the Year in 2009, served as Club President in 2011-12, is a multiple Paul Harris Fellow, a sustaining member of The Rotary Foundation and a member of the Rotary International Bequest Society.
 
Jim has been active in all our Avenues of Service since joining the club.  He has been an active participate many of our service and fellowship activities in all 5 Avenues, including: the annual roadside cleanup, our Rotary Auction and Yearbook fundraisers, and our annual Rotary Leadership Conference. 
 
Jim is best known for his work in Club Service as the “tech guy”, including managing the Club’s website and creating and maintaining the Club’s Facebook page.  Since 2007, he has maintained the club’s membership database, updating the information regularly with Rotary International.  He introduces new members to the workings of the Clubrunner club management system and works with new club executives to make club information management more effective.  Jim created and continues to manage the website sponsorship ad program.  Jim is our main liaison with Rotary International’s “Club Central” system, making sure that the activities of the Rotary Club of Truro are always well represented to the wider Rotary world.
 
Jim has served as Club Foundation Chair for the past three years and helped to secure a very successful district grant to acquire a Sit Ski for disabled skiers at Ski Wentworth.  Jim authored the Club’s 80th and 90th anniversary history booklets and he maintains an archive of the facts and photos of the club activities and history.  He also shares his love of Rotary in other ways having sponsored 10 new members to our club.
 
Jim has taken on a wider role with Rotary through his involvement at the Rotary District.  He was a District Board member from 2011 to 2016 and served as District 7820 Governor in 2015-16.  He continues to be a board member of the Atlantic Rotary Leadership Institute, is founding chair of the District Social Media Committee, and continues to manage the District Website and Social Media presence.
 
Jim and Barbara have two sons who live in Ottawa with their growing families. They now have four grandchildren.
 
In the winter months, Jim can be found on the slopes of Ski Wentworth, primarily as a ski instructor.  When there is no snow, he is most often on his bicycle around Truro, wearing his colourful Rotary cycling jersey.  Jim often says “It’s a great day to be a Rotarian”.
